a Vermont law firm located in the Town of Hinesburg, providing
a broad and comprehensive array of legal services to our clients.
Our attorneys have experience in many practice areas of the law.
- The firm is a merger of Kohn & Rath, LLP and Blackwood &
Danon, P.C. Roger E. Kohn opened a
practice in the Hinesburg Town Hall in 1974. David
Rath joined the practice in 1979. They soon outgrew the
Town Hall office, and moved to a circa 1856 parsonage on Main Street
in 1979, the firm being known as Kohn & Rath. Eileen
Blackwood established a practice in Burlington, Vermont in 1992,
after practicing with another firm for about five years. Beth
Danon joined her in in 2003, after practicing for about 17 years
elsewhere in Vermont, and they subsequently formed Blackwood
& Danon, P.C. In 2009 the firms merged to create the
present firm.
Attorney Biographies
Roger E. Kohn was born in New Jersey
in 1945, and moved to Vermont in 1971. Roger was graduated from the
University of Pennsylvania in 1967, with a major in physics. He
obtained his law degree magna cum laude (with high honors) from the
University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1971, where he was a
Comment Editor of the Law Review and a member of the Order of the
Coif. He received the Henry C. Loughlin prize for legal ethics.
Roger served as a law clerk to the Honorable Bernard J. Leddy, Chief
U.S. District Judge, and worked at Vermont Legal Aid before opening
his practice in Hinesburg.Roger is currently President of
the Chittenden County Bar Association, and a member of the Vermont Bar
Association and the Vermont
Trial Lawyers Association (Vermont Association for Justice). He is a Director and founding member of the Vermont
Employment Lawyers Association, and a past chairman of the
Vermont Bar Association Workers' Compensation Committee. Roger is the
author of a series of articles on employment law, has taught
classes on the Uniform Commercial Code, and has been a presenter at
numerous seminars in the areas of trial practice, employment law, workers'
compensation, and legal
ethics. He is listed in the 2007-2009 publications of SuperLawyers
magazine in the categories of general litigation, plaintiff's
personal injury, and employment law. Roger is admitted to practice before the
Vermont Supreme Court, the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of
Appeals for the Second Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the
District of Vermont, and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. Roger was
a member of the Hinesburg Planning Commission for over 25
years, and is the managing partner of Kohn Rath Blackwood & Danon. Roger focuses
his practice in the areas of employment law, personal injury,
workers' compensation, commercial litigation, computer law, and real

David Rath was born in Washington,
D.C. in 1950 and grew up in Cooperstown, New York, moving to Vermont
in 1974. David was graduated from Dartmouth College in 1972 and from
the Franklin Pierce Law Center in 1979. David joined Roger Kohn as
an associate and entered private practice in Hinesburg. In 1981,
Roger and David formed the Kohn Rath Blackwood & Danon partnership. David
focuses his practice in the areas of civil litigation, personal
injury and wrongful death, bank counsel, modification and
restructuring of secured debt, real estate, and labor relations.
David is admitted to practice in the Vermont Supreme Court, the
United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for
the Second Circuit, and the United States District Court for the
District of Vermont.
David Rath was an adjunct professor of Business Law at St.
Michael's College for many years, and has presented a variety of
seminars and training sessions in the areas of his practice. He is a
member of the Vermont Bar Association, having served on the Board of
Managers of that organization for several years. He
has been active in community affairs, serving on the Monkton
Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Adjustment, and on the Mt.
Abraham Union High School Board of Directors, serving as Chair for
his last two years there.
David is an elite masters bicycle racer riding for the
Green Mountain Bike Club/Catamount race team. David won the
masters North American Road Championship in 2002 in Sutton
Quebec, the masters National Cyclocross Championship in 2001 and
2004, the Killington Stage Race in 2000, and the Green Mountain
Stage Race in 2001, 2002,and 2003. back to top
Eileen Blackwood received
her A.B. degree from Dartmouth College with a special major in
Women and Education. She received her J.D. degree with honors from
Cornell Law School where she was the Managing Editor of the Cornell
Law Review. She served as Law Clerk to the Hon. Franklin
S. Billings, Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the District of
Vermont, and is currently President of the
Vermont Bar Association. Ms. Blackwood has been in private practice
in Burlington, Vermont, since 1986 and focuses her practice in the
fields of education law, employment law, nonprofits, and estate
planning. She also serves as a mediator and Early Neutral Evaluator
for a wide variety of disputes and as a hearing officer for VOSHA.
Ms. Blackwood is listed in the current publication of SuperLawyers
magazine in the categories of employment law, schools and

Beth A. Danon received her B.A.
Degree from CUNY Hunter College and her J.D. Degree from CUNY Law
School at Queens College. She was Law Clerk to Vermont Supreme Court
Justice Frank G. Mahady. Except for the period from 2001 through to
2002, when she was the supervising attorney at Vermont Protection
and Advocacy, Inc., in Montpelier, Vermont, she has been in private
practice in Burlington, Vermont for 19 years. She is a Director of
the Vermont Association for Justice (formerly called the Vermont Trial
Lawyers Association), a member of the
Vermont Employment Lawyers Association, and a Director of the Vermont
Bar Foundation. She also serves as an alternate on the Winooski
Development Review Board. She concentrates her practice in the
fields of civil rights law, personal injury, employment,
professional licensing, social security disability, workers’
compensation, affordable housing, and real estate. back

Michelle Chandler of Huntington, Vermont, joined
Kohn Rath Blackwood & Danon in 1996, after working eight years for a Burlington law
firm. Michelle's work includes coordination and document preparation
for real estate closings, work on
litigation matters, and general

Terry
Silva of Charlotte, Vermont, holds an Associate of Arts degree
from Colby-Sawyer College and a Paralegal Certificate from
Burlington College. Terry is a former Charlotte Town Clerk.
Terry joined Kohn Rath Blackwood & Danon in 2003, and does paralegal work on a broad variety of different types of
cases, as well as general document preparation and bookkeeping.
